This thought occurred to me today, but why did Steven need to bring back Moljinir? The Ancient One only specified that the stones had to be brought back to the place in time they were taken, so as to not cause an imbalance and throw that timeline off into a dark direction. They already established that all of the past actions of everyone would not be affected by whatever they did, so Thor taking the hammer into the present with him didn't undo everything he did after Dark World, including losing the hammer to Hela. So did he actually take it back or did Thor give it to him and he has it with him in the past with Peggy in his new timeline?
So it seems they are putting the movie back in theaters with more footage and an end of credits scene, probably tying in Spider-man. Interesting. I wonder if the additional footage is just to "fix" the problems people had with the movie, like Steve's timeline jumping.
I know since the movie was released that both the Russo brothers and the writing team have tried to clarify the Steve Rogers time travel problem at the end, but I ran across another video with the Russon's giving their final answer mostly to debunk some fan theories, and it's pretty straight forward. It's just either a pity or a failing on their part that so many post-movie explanations had to be made. But they admitted that yes Steve did create an alternate timeline when he went back and stayed with Peggy in the past and when he is on the bench that's him having come back to the original timeline just to give Sam his shield.
But I've decided for myself that the Steve on the bench isn't original Steve.
I know they showed our Steve with Peggy in the past, but I think that was the only dance they got and that he left to find that timeline's Steve in the ice and that Steve, Steve 2.0 is the one that is reunited with Peggy to have his beautiful life and it's Steve 2.0 on the bench to give Sam the shield on behalf of original Steve because original Steve wouldn't be selfish enough to live a life someone else should have. So he reunites Steve 2.0 and Peggy, saves Bucky, and then probably paved the way for that new timeline to exist without the problems that plagued his timeline, meaning rooting Hydra out of SHIELD early on, making sure Hydra doesn't find alternative ways to mess with history, and maybe even jumping forward to just before Thanos attacks and gets the Avengers prepared to meet him in Wakanda and he gets the gauntlet then to do what Tony did in the original timeline, saving Vision, Nat, and Tony from their fates. That feels more like original timeline Steve then him just going back and retiring in the past with Peggy and letting the world burn around him just so he can wait on a bench after all the bad just to hand a friend a borrowed shield.
I'm not saying as an achievement it shouldn't. I'm just saying they'll find excuses not too. Because it's a "superhero" movie, and they're not "important". LOTR was fantasy but based on classic literature, so it gets a pass.
Or they'll nominate it, but something with an actor/actress that made themselves ugly or fat that takes place during the Depression or something will win.
I don't think you're wrong, per se, but it took decades for a fantasy film to get the accolades that LOTR got. I think that this time is different, and if Endgame loses, that will be a big blow to the credibility of the Academy. In fact, I'll stop capitalizing Academy, and instead spell it with a Fuck You at the beginning.
The thing is, this isn't even my favorite franchise, but I think their accomplishment is inescapable. And if they lose Best Picture, then I will pay you 20 actual dollars. In gift card form most likely.
You know.... they kind of gave the MCU a way to bring young Steve back when they put Scott in Hulk's version of the time machine and pushing time Scott, and it turned him into a kid, then an old man, and then a baby. So they take old Steve and do the same thing and BAM they get Captain America back, but one that has an entire lifetime of memories with Peggy from an alternate timeline.
