I am now an expert at putting up window clings, AMA.
But I think I'm finally ready to accept that the guy who did the floors did them completely wrong and they probably need to be stripped and redone. He sanded the floors and they were great. Sure there was a spot or two where the boards had gaps, but that's what wood filler is for. And he didn't do that. And he put the quarter round down before staining. And he didn't actually stain. He put the stain on but never wiped it back off, so it puddled up or had places where it made that funny ridged shape paint does when you pick up a brush from a thick layer... so now when I'm sweeping, dust is getting caught in the roughness of the floors or the gaps.
I should have just done them myself, TBH. Why I didn't realize he hadn't wiped the stain off and said something while they were still wet, I don't know either.

Feeling a little defeated today because in the living room are these 5 floor to ceiling mirrors on one wall that I don't like, but they were there when I moved in and I have no idea what they are hiding and don't want to find out. However, a few of them are staring to come away from the wall as whatever adhesive was used to put them up in the first place is failing. So I bought some liquid nails and my intention today was to load up the backs of the mirrors with the space available and stick them back up. However, in some spots the mirror isn't even touching the glue I put down, or it's not setting up fast enough for me to just hold them in place till it grabs and I have no idea what to do. So I ordered some mirror tacks or whatever from Lowes and now I'm working up the energy to try loading up the backs with more glue and then screwing in the mirror clips to hold them in place so I can take them off later. Or maybe I'll leave them. It's not like its possible to make that wall look any tackier. (I plan on put my bookcases along that wall anyhow so...)
But I'm just annoyed because a few years ago, one of the mirrors did fall. Luckily we had the couch against that wall at the time so all the mirror did is slip down and then lean against the couch. So the landlord hired a guy to reattach it. So why the hell didn't he do them all at the time???
I ended up just putting the clips on. And then, on the two ends when I screwed the clip to the wall, it actually pulled the paneling away from the wall.
Here's the thing.... in the living room on the one wall along the side of the house both upstairs and in my apartment is covered in that fake wood paneling that comes in sheets that were kind of popular in the 70s and 80s, (and mostly for trailers). It's painted the same color as the rest of the room in an attempt to blend it in... But also in my apartment, they hung the mirrors on that in some attempt to double the light from the front windows.
I've always wondered if there had been damage done to those walls to explain why they were paneled but now I think that they might have covered up some decorative windows when the old owners put new paneling on the outside of the house. So rather than take out the windows properly and fill in with drywall, etc. on the interior, this was their solution. So there's actually a small gap between the original wall and the paneling that is up because of the windows, and the clips I'm screwing into the walls are probably only grabbing onto one thin layer of decorative plywood and the weight is too much on the ends, making it pull away. Great. Just awesome.
They have to deduct from your rent if you make upgrades to the property. However, most of the time it's such a headache relative to the upgrade done that it's not worth it. I may replace a door in my apartment, but only if I can find it cheap. I don't want to put too much money into this kind of thing.
I bet you're right about why the paneling is up. Easier to do that then anything else.
There's nothing an agnostic can't do if he doesn't know whether he believes in anything or not.
So I finally got the baseboards and entrance ways to the living room painted. I have one crack and a few nail holes from previous pictures that were hung to patch up and I can paint the walls and BE DONE with that room and finally get my couch and TV out of my bedroom.
Painting is 99% done. I have a few places to touch up. But it looks so much better than it did. Before it was this weird light beige dark cream color. Now it's a very cool grey that can also look a little bit blue. Can't wait to hang stuff and get my couch back in there and find curtains. I'll actually like being at home and not just because it's where all the people aren't. But because it's pretty too!
And it'll be nice to get at least part of my place back to normal. Because both my LR and DR are shoved aside, I'm literally living in my bedroom and I can't get anything else done. But I'm also excited because I think my various art prints and photos are going to look great on these new walls.
